كشف خبراء أميركيون عن تقنية جديدة تمكّن شخصاً مشلولاً تماماً ولا يتواصل إلا من خلال تحريك عينيه، من تحويل أفكاره إلى كلام في وقت طبيعي. وذكرت شبكة "سي أن أن" أن الشاب إيريك رامسي "26 عاماً" يخضع حالياً لهذا الإجراء الجديد، بعد ان كان قد أصيب بجلطة بعد حادث سير تعرض له تركه يعاني من شلل كامل وغير قادر على التواصل إلا من خلال تحريك عينيه.
وأفادت الدراسة التي نشرت في مجلة "بلوس وان" أن الخبراء من جامعة "بوسطن" زرعوا قطباً كهربائياً "الكترود" في دماغ الفتى مكّنه من تحويل أفكاره إلى أصوات تصدر عن آلة لتحليل الصوت.
وحدد العلماء الأجزاء المسؤولة عن النطق في دماغ رامسي بعدما أخضعوه إلى مسح بينما كان يحاول الكلام، ثم زرعوا قطباً كهربائياً عصبياً في الدماغ، وهي عبارة عن مخروط زجاجي لا يتجاوز طوله الميليمتر الواحد، ويحتوي على ثلاثة أسلاك، كل منها أرق من شعرة الرأس.
ويتعلم المستخدم استعمال هذه التقنية كلسان اصطناعي بدل أن يكون نظام طباعة، إذ أثبتت دراسات سابقة أنه يمكن استخدام الاقطاب الكهربائية لنقل ما يفكر به المستخدم إلى شاشة الكمبيوتر. وتقوم هذه التقنية على تسجيل القطب الكهربائي للإشارات العصبية التي تنطلق من دماغ رامسي حين يريد أن يتكلم، ويرسلها جهاز راديو مزروع تحت فروة الرأس لا سلكياً عبر الجمجمة.
