ذكر تقرير جديد صادر عن شركة "جوجل" الشهيرة، أنه يوجد أكثر من مليار شخص يمتلكون إمكانية الوصول إلى شبكة الإنترنت. وقال التقرير، إنه يتم يومياً إرسال أكثر من 80 مليار بريد إلكترونى، وتحميل 3.7 مليون صورة، مشيراً إلى تضاعف حجم التدوين إلى أكثر من 100 ضعف حجمه منذ 3 أعوام، ويستمر فى التضاعف بمرور 200 يوم.
وأضاف التقرير أن معدل تغلغل شبكة الإنترنت فى العالم العربى وصل حالياً إلى نسبة تقل عن 10% وٍٍهنالك ما يقرب من 40 مليون مستخدم للشبكة من مجموع 325 مليون نسمة. كما تبلغ نسبة المحتوى العربى للشبكة أقل من 1% بحوالى 150 مليون صفحة ويب مقارنة بـ30 مليار صفحة ويب من جميع أنحاء العالم. واعتبر التقرير، أن الإحصائيات المتعلقة بالعالم العربى، تعكس مشكلة حقيقية فيما يتعلق بإمكانية الوصول إلى المعلومات للشبكة العربية، إذا لم يكن للمحتوى وجود، فلن يكون هنالك محفز للناس لاستخدام شبكة الإنترنت، وإن قلّت نسبة مستخدمى الإنترنت ستظل كمية المحتوى المحلى المنتج قليلة.
